Zambia’s 19-year-old Michael Chuma stunned top Kenyan golfers to claim victory at the 22nd edition of the Muthaiga Open.

The Nkana Golf Club player showcased remarkable skill and composure, finishing with an impressive score of 207 (-6) over three rounds to lift the prestigious title at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Playing in Kenya for the first time, Chuma delivered a dominant performance, posting rounds of 74, 68, and 65, with his final round proving decisive as he outplayed Kenya’s elite golfers on the demanding Muthaiga course.

His victory earned him Sh115,600.

Kenya’s Elvis Muigua of Ndumberi Golf Club finished second with a score of 210 (-3) after carding consistent rounds of 70, 70, and 70.

However, he fell short of Chuma’s brilliance.

John Lejirma of Royal Nairobi Golf Club secured third place at 211 (-2), with rounds of 68, 75, and 68.

A formidable name in the local golf scene, Lejirma fought hard to stay in contention but ultimately couldn’t match Chuma’s explosive finish.

Zambia’s Bwembya Patrick Chanda from Chibuluma Golf Club placed fourth with a total score of 214 (+1), while home player Eugene Wafula of Muthaiga Golf Club rounded off the top five at 216 (+3).

The tournament also saw two golfers achieve rare hole-in-ones on Muthaiga’s signature 13th hole.

Morgan Chirchir aced the hole in the first round on Friday, while Jason Mwai matched the feat on Saturday, adding a special highlight to the event.
