Mercy Nyanchama Wins the Sigona Ladies Open

Golf Park-based golfer Mercy Nyanchama on Saturday beat over 150 lady golfers to win the Sigona Ladies Open Tournament.

Nyanchama, playing with a handicap of 1, showcased her prowess by carding an impressive 72 gross points, securing her the coveted title.

Joyce Wanjiru, also playing off handicap 1, clinched the second position with 77 gross points, closely followed by Bianca Genchu, boasting a handicap of 6, who secured third place with 78 gross points.

Rachel Ndei, playing off handicap 12, secured the fourth position with 81 gross points, while Naomi Wafula of Vipingo Ridge, playing off handicap minus 1, rounded up the top five with a gross score of 82.

Nyanchama attributed her stellar performance to her improved game.

“I had a good game on Saturday, my driver, putting, and short game were on point. I now set my sights on maintaining my game and playing even better than the Kabete and Sigona tournaments,” she said.

She further revealed her anticipation for the upcoming Limuru Open, indicating her dedication to continuous improvement.

“I’m now preparing for the Limuru Open,” she said.

In the Division ‘A’ Nett Category, Michelle Muhanda, with a handicap of 17, clinched the top position with a net score of 70, while Shivani Patel, also with a handicap of 17, secured second place with a net score of 71.

In the Division ‘B’ Gross Category, Joyce Kioko, playing off a handicap of 20, carded a score of 93 gross points, followed by Elidy Wangeci, with a handicap of 28, scoring 95 gross points.

Meanwhile, Carol Muthee, boasting a handicap of 25, emerged victorious in the Division ‘B’ Nett Category with a net score of 71, closely followed by Vinashri Varsani with a net score of 73.

In the Division ‘C’ Category, Lilian Kanyita, playing off handicap 37, delivered an impressive performance with 36 points, alongside Aidah Yusuf, with a handicap of 43, who also secured 36 points.

Stella Ondimu showcased remarkable accuracy on the greens, winning the nearest to the pin competition, while Elidy Wangechi emerged victorious in the longest drive category.
