A field of 115 golfers is set to compete in this year’s NCBA Great Rift Valley Championship at the breathtaking Great Rift Valley Lodge.
The 54-hole stroke play championship, scheduled for Valentine’s weekend (February 14–16), will showcase top golfing talent.
Among the players to watch is defending champion Elvis Muigua, alongside strong contenders such as Daniel Kiragu, Sammy Mulama, and Josphat Rono.
Notably, two female golfers—Kellie Gachaga from Karen Country Club and Diana Mbuba from Royal Nairobi Golf Club—will also be competing.
All participants will play in the first two rounds, after which the top 33 players, including ties, will advance to the final round on February 16, 2025.
This year’s prize purse is set at KSh 225,000.
As a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event, the championship provides players with an opportunity to earn valuable ranking points while competing for the prestigious title.
The tournament will follow the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Limited, along with the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Local Rules and any additional regulations set by the Tournament Committee.
Speaking ahead of the event, NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora emphasized the bank’s commitment to developing the sport and providing a competitive platform for golfers.
“Our continued partnership with the Kenya Golf Union aims to make the series attractive to both rising golfers and elite amateurs. We look forward to an exciting competition this weekend as players strive to establish their dominance early in the series.”
Kenya Golf Union Vice Chairman and Tournament Director Chris Kinuthia expressed his excitement about hosting a competitive field.
“This tournament is a fantastic opportunity for both elite golfers and rising stars to sharpen their skills and gain essential experience. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all players for their continued support of this series,” he said.
He added, “We are grateful to NCBA Bank for their unwavering dedication to the advancement of golf in Kenya. Their sponsorship has been instrumental in enhancing the quality of this event, providing vital resources for player participation and tournament management.”
