Stephen Gichari emerged as the overall winner in the final qualifying leg of the 2024 NCBA Golf Series held at the Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort in Naivasha.
Competing against more than 150 golfers in Saturday’s tournament, Gichari clinched the top position with a remarkable performance.
Playing off a handicap of 5, Gichari posted an impressive 36 Stableford points to claim victory.
He also secured the “Closest to the Pin” honour on the eighth hole at the Great Rift Valley course.
In the Ladies’ Division, Sissel Rene won with a score of 36 Stableford points.
In Men’s Division II, George Mukundi, playing off a handicap of 17, took top honours with 36 points, while Agnes Githinji, with a handicap of 23, scored 29 points to win in Ladies’ Division II.
Svein Rene, with a handicap of 29, emerged as the overall winner in Division III with 37 Stableford points, and Sacha Abbonizio claimed the Junior category title with a score of 35 points.
With these victories, Gichari, Rene, Mukundi, Githinji, Svein, and Abbonizio secured spots in the highly anticipated 2024 NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale next month.
The finale, set for November 29 at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, will feature over 100 golfers from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Frank Matheah, NCBA’s Branch Manager in Naivasha, praised the success of the Great Rift Valley Lodge leg of the 2024 NCBA Golf Series.
“This year’s series has been exceptional. We’ve seen it grow in terms of participants, events, and regional representation, which makes us eagerly anticipate the finale,” he said.
An additional regional qualifier in Tanzania next month will complete the lineup, finalizing the field for the season finale.
