Muthaiga Golf Club received a significant boost on Monday, with SBM Bank contributing Sh1.5 million in sponsorship for the annual Lady Captain’s Prize Golf Tournament.

The sponsorship includes Sh1 million in cash and Sh500,000 in kind, underscoring SBM Bank’s commitment to supporting golf and strengthening its partnership with the club.

The week-long tournament kicked off on Monday with the Caddies Tournament, offering golf’s unsung heroes a chance to compete.

In addition, caddies will receive financial literacy training courtesy of SBM.

On Tuesday, the tournament focuses on the ladies, who will enjoy both golf and a variety of fun activities, followed by an experiential session hosted by SBM at the end of the day.

Wednesday will feature the club’s traditional Club Nite.

Thursday brings the Seniors Tournament, where members aged over 60 will compete with peers, celebrating golf’s role in promoting health among seniors.

Sponsors and invited guests will play on Friday, leading up to Saturday’s main event, which will see the largest turnout of lady golfers.

Speaking at the club on Monday during the sponsorship presentation, outgoing Lady Captain Regina Gachora emphasized the importance of SBM’s support, highlighting its role in achieving the week’s objectives.

“We are grateful to SBM Bank for their support in this year’s tournament, which enables us to deliver a memorable week of events,” said Gachora.

“With many members eager to participate, we felt it appropriate to extend the tournament to a full week, allowing more opportunities to engage.”

Beth Muthui, SBM Bank’s Director of Consumer Banking, affirmed that the sponsorship reflects SBM’s commitment to the club and to fostering the sport’s growth, particularly among women.

“This sponsorship highlights SBM Bank’s dedication to partnering with Muthaiga Golf Club and supporting golf’s development in Kenya. We look forward to an exciting and successful tournament, where everyone can forge meaningful connections. Women’s golf is growing in Kenya, and we are proud to support that progress,” said Muthui.

In addition, SBM is offering Muthaiga Golf Club members a 40 per cent discount on green and training fees when using their SBM card, an offer available until July next year.
