Kaelyne Munene, Shuhan Peng, and Amani Muriithi emerged as new winners in the latest leg of the NCBA Junior Golf Foundation US Kids Local Tour, held on Sunday at Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

This marks the halfway point of the US Kids Local tour.

Kaelyne Munene claimed victory in the girls’ 11-12 years category after tying with Siqian Yu at 82 points.

The two went into a one-hole playoff, where Munene secured the win.

Hope Oduor finished third in the category.

Shuhan Peng topped the boys’ 12 years category with 79 points.

“It felt nice to win because this is my best course, and I prefer playing here. I just focused on getting my balls in the fairway. My goal is to perform well and qualify for the world championships,” said Shuhan.

He narrowly edged out Jeff Kivi, who finished one stroke behind with 80 points, while Plash Tank came in third with 87 points.

In the girls’ 13-14 years category, Amani Muriithi impressed by dethroning Yolanda Yu, who had won the last three legs.

Muriithi posted 84 points, just one stroke ahead of Yu, who finished second with 85 points.

Lael Mwangale placed third with 87 points.

“This is my home club (Royal), and I usually play well here, though I mostly play at Vet Lab. We started on hole 10 today, which worked in my favour as I find it the hardest. I played better on that side despite not practicing this week. My goal is to consistently score between 80 and 85 for the rest of the season,” Amani shared.

Guanzhe Wang shot six over par, scoring 78 to win the boys’ 11 years category, with Nathan Kiarie close behind at 84 points.

Xia Yu finished third with 99 points.

With the first four legs held at Limuru Country Club, Vet Lab Sports Club, Thika Sports Club, and Royal Nairobi Golf Club, October promises to be a busy month for the JGF Local Tour.

The fifth, sixth, and seventh legs will take place at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, Sigona Golf Club, and Windsor again.

The Tour Championship is scheduled for November 3 at Muthaiga Golf Club.
