The prestigious NCBA Mt. Kenya Championship will take place from August 30th to September 1st, 2024, at Nyeri Golf Club.

Since its inception in 1957, this event has become a highlight of Kenya’s golf calendar.

This year’s tournament will feature top Kenyan golfers, including Michael Karanga, the current Kenya number one from Kiambu Golf Club, John Lejirma from Railway Golf Club, Elvis Muigua from Kiambu Golf Club, and Josphat Rono from Golf Park Golf Course.

Golf fans can also look forward to impressive performances from lady golfers like Naomi Wafula, Kellie Gachaga, Ashley Awuor, and Stella Mwangi.

In an interview with Golf Score, Wafula said: “I’m feeling great, and fully prepared for the Mt. Kenya Championship. I’m ready to give my best in Nyeri.”

Last weekend, Wafula won the 2024 Kenya Ladies Open Amateur Championship at Thika Greens Golf Club.

On her part, Kellie Gachaga said she is confident of better performance in Nyeri.

“I am feeling quite confident about my game. I have high hopes that I will be able to return good consistent scores throughout the weekend at the Mt Kenya Championship,” said Gachaga.

Kenya Golf Union chairman, David Ndung’u, expressed gratitude to Nyeri Golf Club for their exceptional organization and to NCBA for their vital sponsorship.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to Nyeri Golf Club for their impeccable organization of the event and to NCBA for their continued support and sponsorship. Their contributions are vital to the success and growth of golf in Kenya,” he said.

The three-day, 54-hole stroke play championship features amateurs from across the country.

After the first two rounds, the top 33 players and ties will advance to the final round on Sunday.

The event offers a prize fund of Sh500,000.

This tournament is part of the ongoing Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) 2024 calendar, organized by the Kenya Golf Union (KGU).

It counts towards the Golfer of the Year and earns points for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
