Mburu, Wekesa and Saruni Shine at NCBA Golf Series at Railways Golf Club Edition

The 11-month-long 2024 edition of the NCBA Golf Series kicked off Saturday at the Kenya Railway Golf Club, Nairobi.

Some 145 golfers took to the course to compete for victory across various divisions.

In Division One, where players with handicaps up to 12 showcased their skills, Kenneth Mburu, boasting a handicap of 12, emerged triumphant with an impressive score of 38 Stableford points.

John Kamenyi, playing off handicap 8, claimed the runner-up spot, posting a commendable 37 points on the course.

Division Two, featuring players with handicaps ranging from 13 to 24, saw Ronald Wekesa, playing off handicap 16, clinching the men’s category title with an outstanding 43 points.

In the women’s category, Jane Ndirangu, with a handicap of 22, secured victory with a score of 36 points.

In the Division Three competition, comprised of players with handicaps of 25 and above, Kimaita Magiri, playing off handicap 26, emerged victorious after carding an impressive 42 points.

Other notable performances included Saruni Meely, playing off handicap 25, who claimed victory among the junior golfers with a stellar round of 30 points.

Guest winner Steve Mutungi, with a handicap of 26, showcased his prowess with a score of 40 points.

Among the NCBA staff, Charles “Sirkal” Omondi, NCBA Group Acting Director for Retail Banking, secured the Staff winner title with 33 points, playing off handicap 21.

The 2024 NCBA Golf Series comprises 23 qualifying events – 14 in Kenya, three in Uganda, three in Rwanda, two in Tanzania, and one in Zanzibar – which will be a build-up to a grand finale to be held on the 29th of November at the Muthaiga Golf Club.

Six players from the qualifying events, among them the Division One Male and Lady Winner; Division Two Male Winner and Lady Winner; Division Three Overall Winner; and the overall Junior Winner will qualify to play at the grand finale in November.

The series now heads to the Nakuru Golf Club on the 24th of March 2024, for the second leg.
