
Home player Martin Mengech delivered a stellar performance to claim the Overall Winner title at the NCBA Golf Series held at Nandi Bears Golf Club in Nandi County on Saturday.
Playing off a handicap of 45, Mengech carded an impressive 46 points, securing a well-deserved victory in a tournament that attracted over 150 golfers from across the region, including Kakamega, Kericho, and Eldoret golf clubs.
In the Men’s Category, Boaz Sugut (handicap 21) emerged victorious with 39 points, while Joyce Rotich (handicap 31) dominated the Ladies’ Category, scoring an outstanding 45 points.
Among the juniors, 14-year-old Protus Ambani showcased remarkable skill, scoring 33 points to claim the Junior Category title.
These four—Mengech, Sugut, Rotich, and Ambani—have now secured spots in the Grand Finale, where they will compete against other qualifiers for the ultimate championship title at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Nelson Koech triumphed in the Longest Drive Men’s challenge, while Faith Chemutai claimed the women’s title.
In the Nearest to the Pin contest, Solomon Atsiaya displayed exceptional precision to take the prize.
Speaking at the event, NCBA Kapsabet Branch Manager Phederesy Wesonga reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to nurturing golf talent at all levels.
“This year, we have taken our golf sponsorship a notch higher by partnering with the Professional Golfers of Kenya to complete the cycle, while also extending our involvement with the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) and the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF),” said Wesonga.
He added, “We believe these partnerships will be instrumental in catering to the needs of junior golfers, amateurs, and professionals alike. Golf is more than just a sport—it brings people together, strengthens communities, and fosters both personal and professional growth.”
The next leg of the NCBA Golf Series is set for February 8 at Malindi Golf Club as golfers continue to battle for a coveted place in the Grand Finale.
As part of NCBA Bank’s continued commitment to golf development, the 2025 series has expanded significantly, with 159 events scheduled across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda—an increase from 130 events in 2024.
