John Lejirmah of Railways Golf Club, Nairobi, successfully defended his Ronald Marshal and Toby Gibson title at Njoro Golf Club in Nakuru County on Sunday.

He defeated Rwandan international Felix Dusabe 3 up with 2 holes to play in the tournament that was sponsored by NCBA Bank.

Last year, Lejirma claimed the title by decisively beating the 20-year-old Elvis Muigua of Kiambu Golf Club, finishing 8 up with 6 holes to play.

In an interview with Golf Score, Lejirma said, “Defending a title is a rare and challenging feat. At Njoro, I focused on mastering the course instead of worrying about my competitors. When you conquer the course, you can beat anyone.”

This victory marks Lejirma’s second Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series title this year. Two weeks ago, he won the Trans Nzoia Open at Kitale Golf Club.

“I hope to remain grounded, and I’m looking forward to winning the Coronation Trophy at Nakuru Golf Club at the end of this month,” he added.

Lejirma dominated from the qualifying round on Friday and maintained his lead throughout the tournament.

In the quarterfinals, he faced Kiambu’s Elvis Muigai in a repeat of last year’s final. Muigai sought revenge but fell short as Lejirma won by one hole.

To reach the final, Lejirma defeated Golf Park’s Amos Odongo 2-1, while Dusabe overcame Muthaiga’s John Koina on the 20th hole after a level play in the 18th.

In the final on Sunday, Lejirma outplayed Dusabe 3-2, securing his title and reinforcing his status as a formidable competitor in the KAGC series.
