Kenyan professional golfers Njoroge Kibugu, Greg Snow, David Wakhu, Samuel Njoroge, Dismas Indiza, Mohit Mediratta, Riz Charania, and Edwin Mudanyi have secured their spots for the 2025 Magical Kenya Open, set to take place from February 20-23 at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Kibugu delivered a dominant performance to top the final leaderboard as the NCBA Bank-sponsored Magical Kenya Open Qualifiers concluded on Friday at the par-72 Sigona Golf Club.

He led a competitive field of 48 professionals who battled over four rounds at Muthaiga and Sigona for the coveted eight slots reserved for Kenyan pros in next year’s prestigious tournament.

Demonstrating consistency and composure, Kibugu sealed his qualification in style, carding a 3-under par 69 in the final round at Sigona to finish with a stellar total of 15-under par 271.

His front nine featured birdies on the 1st, 2nd, and 9th holes, offset by a lone bogey on the 3rd.

On the back nine, he showcased his putting prowess with birdies on the 10th, 12th, and a brilliant run of birdies on four of the last five holes.

“I hit the ball well and executed my game plan. It has been a great experience building towards the Magical Kenya Open, and I hope to carry this momentum forward. My putting has been phenomenal, but my wedges have been diabolical—I need to work on that. I’m happy to have qualified, and now it’s all about preparing for the main tournament,” Kibugu said.

His dominance was evident from the start, opening with back-to-back 5-under par 66s at Muthaiga, followed by a steady 2-under par 70 in the third round at Sigona, before closing with his final-round 69.

Greg Snow and David Wakhu tied for second place, both finishing with a total of 10-under par 276.

Snow saved his best for last, firing a sensational 6-under par 66 in the final round, which included birdies on the 10th, 11th, 12th, 15th, 16th, and 18th holes.

“It’s been a good experience, a great learning curve. With the rains we’ve had, the course played much better today, a bit easier than Muthaiga. I think I need to work on my short game heading into the Kenya Open,” Snow remarked.

Wakhu put together a solid final round, carding a 2-under par 70, with birdies on the 2nd, 4th, 10th, and 14th holes, offset by a single bogey on the 8th.

Samuel Njoroge claimed fourth place with a total of 8-under par 278, while veteran golfer Dismas Indiza finished fifth at 7-under par 279.

Mohit Mediratta booked his ticket with a 4-under par 282, followed by Riz Charania at 2-under par 284 and Edwin Mudanyi at 1-under par 281, rounding out the list of qualifiers.

With their spots secured, the eight qualifiers now set their sights on the 2025 Magical Kenya Open, where they will compete against an elite international field at Muthaiga Golf Club.

As a key event on the DP World Tour calendar, the tournament provides a significant platform for Kenyan professionals to showcase their talent on a global stage.

The qualifiers were made possible through NCBA Bank’s sponsorship of KES 1.2 million to the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK).

This support extends to other PGK-organized tournaments, ensuring Kenyan professionals have ample competitive opportunities in preparation for the Magical Kenya Open.

PGK Chairman CJ Wangai lauded NCBA’s support, stating, “We are truly grateful for NCBA’s sponsorship, which made this event possible. More events are coming up, also supported by NCBA, which will provide our players with valuable playing time as they prepare for the Magical Kenya Open.”
