Kenya’s Junaid Manji and Bianca Ngecu Win Prestigious Golf Scholarships

Kenyan junior golfers Junaid Ayaz Manji and Bianca Ngecu have been awarded scholarships to participate in the 2024 Congaree Global Golf Initiative (CGGI).

The duo will travel to Scotland in the first week of August.

The CGGI is an immersive collegiate preparatory program tailored to high school students from the United States and abroad with ambitions to play golf at the collegiate level.

The program offers an immersive experience, including top-tier golf coaching, academic counselling, and mentorship, all designed to enhance participants’ prospects of securing college admissions and scholarships.

It boasts impressive results, with the majority of its alumni receiving golf scholarship offers and 95 per cent enrolling in accredited four-year colleges and universities.

The Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) of Kenya, through the Kenya Golf Union (KGU), received an invitation to nominate players to the 2024 CGGI.

JGF invited its members to apply for the CGGI program.

Eight of the 14 applications received met the eligibility criteria and were forwarded to Congaree for final selection. 

Junaid and Bianca emerged successful from the list of eight.

Congaree Foundation Executive Director, Ben Grandy, said they are excited to welcome Bianca and Junaid to Scotland in August.

“We are excited to welcome Bianca and Junaid this summer! They are booked to join us in Scotland the first week of August. Thank you again to the Junior Golf Foundation Kenya for your help in identifying young people for this opportunity,” said Gardy.

Junior Golf Foundation President Regina Gachora congratulated the two young golfers.

“A hearty congratulations to Junaid and Bianca for this great achievement. We wish them every success in the program,” said Gachora.

She said JGF is committed to the development of junior golf in Kenya, and college golf is an important pathway that remains key to transitioning a junior golfer to a top amateur or professional golfer.

“JGF shall continue to identify opportunities in colleges and universities and share such opportunities with our members,” she said.

This achievement highlights the ongoing efforts of the JGF to support and develop young golfing talent in Kenya, paving the way for future successes on the international stage.
