Kenya’s oldest golf course, Royal Nairobi Golf Club (est. 1906), will this weekend host the opening leg of the 30-event KCB East Africa Golf Tour.
Over 200 golfers are expected to participate in the tournament on Saturday, February 1, at the club’s 18-hole course.
The top two teams from the event will secure the first slots for the tour’s grand finale on December 5.
KCB Bank Kenya recently committed KSh 80 million to the third edition of the series, which will span 16 counties in Kenya and extend to Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, and Uganda.
Royal Nairobi Golf Club Captain Willy Mastemet said they are ready to host the first major tournament of 2025.
“The course is in excellent condition, and we expect stiff competition from over 200 golfers. The KCB Golf Series has played a pivotal role in advancing the sport in Kenya and beyond, and we are proud to be part of this journey,” he said.
KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communications Rosalind Gichuru emphasized the bank’s continued investment in golf.
“We aim to engage over 3,000 participants and 1,500 juniors this year, reinforcing our commitment to growing the game across the region. This investment provides golfers with a platform to compete locally, regionally, and internationally.”
Among the headline golfers set to compete are long-hitter Korby Gatiramu and seasoned player Kevin Juma, alongside Paul Russo, Japheth Achola, John Okulo, Ruth Mwangi, Millicent Melo, Scola Onsongo, and Aggrey Mulumbi.
As part of its youth development initiative, KCB will host a Junior Golf Clinic on Sunday, featuring 80 young golfers who will receive hands-on training and mentorship from experienced professionals.
