Jacintah Wambugu of Karen Country Club and Rose Catherine of Muthaiga Golf Club emerged victorious at the 2024 Karen Ladies Invitation.

They recorded an impressive 48 Stableford points to claim the top honours at the tournament.

Reflecting on their victory, Catherine said they had a good day together with Wambugu and played very well.

“At the beginning, we just spotted each other’s strengths and complemented one another very well. The day started chilly and then it brightened up, and then we had a good day. Personally, when I came in today, I just came in to have fun, and then scores showed up,” she said.

Wambugu said her partner was driving the ball very well.

“We had very good company; our fourball was just amazing, so We decided to enjoy ourselves. It was a bit slow on some holes; otherwise, it was a beautiful day, graced by beautiful weather for what was a beautiful event,” she said.

Betty Gacheru, Karen Country Club Lady Captain, said the 2024 Karen Ladies Invitation was a great success.

“We had a field of 214 ladies playing today, and they all came out looking beautiful. The winners got an amazing score I think that is a course record. They did not know each other before today and they combined to play an amazing score of 48 points which is good,” she said.

She added, “Moving forward the Club can expect more colour events from the lady captain – this year we want to get back to the theme of ‘we are Karen’ where we keep it simple and very classy.”

Securing the second position were Karen Country Club’s Kabura Kamau and Limuru Golf Club’s Agnes Nyambura, combining their efforts to tally 41 points—just one point ahead of the third-placed duo, Karen’s Nekoye Inzaule and Royal Golf Club’s Cherotich Murgor, who finished with 40 points after a countback.

The fourth spot saw Karen’s Carol Karanja, also the lady captain at Golf Park, and Vet Lab’s Rehema Mohamed clinching a respectable 40 points after countback.

The first nine’s best performance was claimed by Karen’s Lillian Marema and Vet Lab’s Nancy Njiraini, securing 21 points after countback.

Meanwhile, Karen’s Lucy Murage and Limuru’s Hannah Gatu seized the best second nine award with an impressive 24 points.

In the junior category, Marya Nyambura from Karen and Cherono Kipkorir from Royal Nairobi Golf Club stood out, claiming the honours with 34 points.

Beth Kariuki and Louisa Gitau showcased their prowess by clinching the longest drive and nearest-to-the-pin awards.
