Michael Karanga of Kiambu Golf Club defended his title at the NCBA Manchester Salver on Sunday at Eldoret Club.

This win marks his seventh victory in the 2024 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series.

Karanga finished at +2 with a three-round total of 215, carding steady scores of 71, 70, and 74.

His closest rivals—Elly Barno from Nandi Bears, Rafael Lemingani from Golf Park, Kenneth Serem from Eldoret Club, and John Koina from Muthaiga Golf Club—tied for second at +7 with scores of 220.

Last week, Karanga told Golf Score Kenya that he was prepared to retain the NCBA Manchester Salver title at Eldoret to cement his position as the 2024 KAGC series leader.

“I’m ready to defend my title at Eldoret. It has a nice course, and I like it. If I win, I will be many points ahead in the KAGC title race,” he said.

Following the victory at Eldoret, Karanga is now leading with 722 points.

Karanga’s victories this season also include the NCBA Kenya Railways Invitational, NCBA Coronation Cup, NCBA Limuru Open, NCBA Coast Open Barry Cup, Karen Challenge, and Malindi Open Vasco da Gama Cup.

Meanwhile, despite finishing seventh overall at the NCBA Manchester Salver tournament, Sammy Mulama of Golf Park Golf Club had much to celebrate

Mulama made history with an impressive 66 (-5) on the second day, setting the course record on the par-71 layout and joining Michael Karanga, who achieved the same score at the venue last year.

Mulama’s stellar Saturday round featured four birdies and an eagle.

He scored two birdies on the front nine, posting a 34 (-1), and followed up with two more birdies and an eagle on the back nine, finishing with a 32 (-4).

His only bogey came on the 8th hole—a small blemish in an otherwise exceptional display of precision and skill.

“Yesterday, I had a great time. I broke the course record, and now I share the title with Michael Karanga, who set it last year with a 66 as well,” Mulama told Golf Score Kenya.

Mulama’s performance was a tournament highlight, especially given the mixed results of his other rounds.

He shot a six-over-par 77 on the first day and struggled with a nine-over-par 80 on Sunday.

Yet, his course record 66 will be remembered as a remarkable achievement.

His name now become part of Eldoret Club’s history, and his record-setting round stands as an inspiration for future golfers aiming to leave their mark on this course.
