Amidst the sweltering temperatures that enveloped the Nyali Golf Club and Country Club course on Saturday, 178 golfers convened for the prestigious I&M Bank Golf Tournament.
Rajesh Kunverji, a maestro of the game with a handicap of 17, stole the spotlight with an extraordinary display, amassing an impressive 41 Stableford points.
Notably, he achieved the rare feat of securing four consecutive pars right after teeing off from the challenging hole number 10 of the revered 67-year-old Nyali Golf championship course.
“I started from hole number 10 and got four pars continuously. I also managed to get at least two clubs, and this made the course simpler. Despite the heat and the difficult course, I played very well,” said Kunverji as he reflected on his outstanding performance.
In the pursuit of perfection, William Kaguta emerged as the virtuoso of precision, claiming the Best Gross title with an impeccable score of 73 Gross.
With handicap 0, Kaguta’s game mastery left spectators in awe.
The Men’s category witnessed a fierce battle of skill and strategy, with Aloise Ogola emerging as the triumphant Men’s Winner. His commendable handicap of 15 and a hard-fought 39 points, secured after a challenging countback, underscored his prowess on the demanding course.
Tom Abwao and Aameen Dhanji, the Men’s runner-up and third respectively, matched Ogola’s score in a thrilling display of competitiveness.
The ladies, undaunted by the relentless heat, showcased their finesse as Jayne Githere claimed the title of Lady Winner, while Petronilah Kalee secured the position of Lady runner-up.
Both demonstrated exceptional skill with scores of 39 and 38 points, adding a touch of grace to the intense competition.
In the realm of experience, Max Mitterer, the Best Senior, brought wisdom to the forefront, showcasing a handicap of 39 and an impressive 42 points.
Meanwhile, the Best Junior title was claimed by the youthful Ethan Kinuthia, who exhibited talent beyond his years with 33 points.
Willy Sang, fresh from a victory at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Golf tournament, faced a challenging day at the Nyali Golf course.
Despite this, the relatively new golfer, playing off a handicap of 22, emerged victorious in the Coastal Clubs category with a score of 36 points.
Reflecting the spirit of teamwork within the I&M Bank staff, Stanley Gachoki emerged as the Staff Winner with 30 points.
In the Guest category, Walter Okoth showcased his prowess with a score of 36 points, standing tall amidst a field of formidable competitors.
The Best First Nine and Best Second Nine titles were claimed by Kamau Kuria and Sheel Dodhia, who navigated the front and back halves of the course with strategic brilliance.
Acknowledging outstanding achievements among high handicappers, Qayyum Shiraz and Phoebe Makasi, with handicaps of 35 and 43 respectively, emerged triumphant in their categories, inspiring aspiring golfers.
