All eyes will be on 20-year-old Kiambu golfer Elvis Muigua this weekend during the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the Muthaiga Golf Club.

Muigua will be seeking his fourth consecutive title this year at the 2024 Muthaiga Open, which has attracted a field of 165 amateur golfers from seven countries worldwide.

Leading the pack are 141 talented Kenyan golfers, joined by competitors hailing from India, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Norway, and Great Britain.

Muigua already boasts three recent victories in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the Sigona Bowl, the Great Rift Valley Championship, and the Windsor Classic.

He is currently the dominant force in the KAGC series, leading with 235 points, followed by John Lejirma from Kenya Railways with 81 points, and Michael Karanga, who won last year’s series is currently placed third with 77 points.

The Muthaiga Open will run from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10, 2024.

The tournament is sponsored by NCBA Bank.

Other noteworthy contenders such as Adel Balala, John Lejirma, and Dennis Maara are also expected to make their mark on the tournament.

Notably, a contingent of 9 female players is also set to challenge their male counterparts, adding an extra dimension to the event.

With a total prize pool of Sh350,000 up for grabs, competitors are driven by both prestige and financial reward, adding to the intensity of the competition.

Beyond its local significance, the Muthaiga Open holds international prestige, serving as a qualifying event for both the Kenya Amateur Golf Ranking and the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

This dual recognition provides players with a valuable platform to elevate their standing on both national and global stages, underscoring the significance of the tournament.
