Charagu and Nderu Claim Top Spots at Thika Sports Club NCBA Golf Series

Isaack Charagu and Betty Nderu triumphed in the hotly contested Division One categories during the recent NCBA Golf Series event, held this past Saturday at Thika Sports Club.

The tournament drew an impressive lineup of 212 golfers, all vying for victory on the challenging par-72 course and a coveted spot in the Series Grand Finale.

In the men’s Division One, Charagu, playing with a handicap of 12, secured the top position with a remarkable 39 points, narrowly beating Julius Wanyaga, who finished with 38 points.

For the ladies’ Division One, Betty Nderu emerged victorious with a commendable 34 points, while Naomi Kimata followed closely with 32 points.

In Division Two, Simon Mathenge and Margaret Waweru excelled in the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively. Mathenge, with a handicap of 18, scored 40 points, and Waweru, with a handicap of 21, achieved an impressive 41 points.

The Division Three category saw Bilha Muthoni dominate with a remarkable score of 42 points.

Guest winner Robert Muhita carded a respectable 39 points, and young golfing talent Jeff Kibe shone in the Junior category with a score of 39 points.

Nicholas Njenga, NCBA Thika Branch Manager, expressed delight with the turnout and competitive spirit at this leg of the NCBA Golf Series.

“Thika Sports Club has been a fantastic venue, and the golfers have displayed exceptional talent. Congratulations to all winners and participants, and we eagerly anticipate the next leg of the series,” he said.

Njenga also highlighted NCBA’s commitment to fostering sportsmanship and community engagement.

“We believe events like these are pivotal in promoting and developing golf in Kenya. We look forward to the series’ continued success and inspiring more golfers to participate,” he added.

In alignment with its sustainability goals, NCBA donated 100 indigenous trees to Thika Sports Club during the event, supporting environmental conservation and enhancing the club’s green spaces.

The series continues to gain momentum, attracting an increasing number of participants. The next leg is set for Saturday, 10th August, at Limuru Country Club, a venue known for drawing large numbers of golfers, promising high participation and competition.
