Elvis Muigua of Kiambu Golf Club over the weekend beat Adel Balala (Nyali Golf Club) and John Lejrimah (Railways Golf Club) to win the Winston Churchill Tournament held at Thika Golf Club.
The Winston Churchill victory is Muigua’s fourth Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series title since the beginning of the year.
The 20-year-old was already boasting three KAGC series titles at the Sigona Bowl, the Great Rift Valley Championship, and the Windsor Classic.
At Thika, Muigua carded carded two over par 74 for a 36-hole total of level par 144, to beat Balala and Lejrimah by a shot.
During an interview with Golf Score Kenya on Monday, Muigua described 2024 as his best year yet, citing his four recent KAGC victories.
“This year has kicked off on a high note for me, with victories in four out of five KAGC titles. The weekend’s performance at Winston Churchill Cup at Thika Golf Club was solid, and I’m excitedly waiting to raise the bar even higher at the upcoming Golf Park Open next weekend,” he said.
The Golf Park Open is scheduled for this weekend.
On his part, Balala, who was looking to secure a second KAGC title series at Thika, said his weekend performance was good given that he had not practised well.
“Losing by a shot is always tough. The game was also motivating because I came close to winning despite not practising well. I should now get back to training to reclaim my position as Kenya one,” said Balala.
Last month, Balala beat Chandaria Neer in a tense play-off during the Muthaiga Open Club to clinch his first victory at the KAGC title this year.
He said he will also be playing during the Golf Park Open this weekend.
“Yes, I will be playing at Golf Park, and I’m going to be very aggressive looking for a win,” he said.
The 2024 Winston Churchill Golf Tournament has been sponsored by NCBA Bank as title sponsors, STIHL, and Vivo Energy-Shell.
