As anticipation builds for the fourth leg of the Safari Tour golf series at Limuru Country and Golf Club, a fierce battle is set to unfold among professional top golfers on the leaderboard.
At least 63 professional golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe are participating in the tournament.
With Sh1 million in prize money up for grabs, the competition, sponsored by Absa Bank, marks a crucial juncture in the quest for a coveted spot in the Magical Kenya Open Championship.
Organized by Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL), the Safari Tour, now in its sixth season, serves as the ultimate qualifier for the prestigious Magical Kenya Open scheduled from February 22–25 at Muthaiga Golf Club.
The top eight players emerging from the six-leg Safari Tour series will secure their places in the Magical Kenya Open, intensifying the stakes for the upcoming rounds.
With the Limuru event kicking off on Sunday, the battle for these coveted positions is expected to intensify as professional golfers seek to showcase their prowess.
Currently leading the Safari Tour log is Kenya’s 55-year-old long-hitter, Dismas Indiza of Kakamega Golf Club, with an impressive 163 total points after the Uganda Open, Vet Lab, and Sigona Golf Club tournaments.
Indiza, who clinched victory in the series’ inaugural leg in Uganda, last November, is poised to maintain his momentum, as he is ahead with a clear 27.5 points.
In second place is Samuel Njoroge of Kenya Railways, with 135.5 points, closely followed by Daniel Nduva of Nyali Golf Club in third with 115.5 points.
Mike Kisia, the winner of the second leg at Vet Lab, holds the fourth position on the leaderboard with 108.3 points, while Greg Snow, triumphant in the third leg at Sigona Golf Club, rounds out the top five with 107.3 points.
At positions, six and seven are Muthaiga’s Mohit Mediratta with 84 points and Kibugu Njoroge with 81 points.
Ugandan Abraham Ainamani is the eighth in the series with 80.5 points.
The remaining three tournaments – Limuru Country Club (January 13-17), Muthaiga Golf Club (January 27-31), and Karen Country Club (February 3-7) – will determine the final standings before the Magical Kenya Open Championship.
