First New Year Weekend Kicks Off with Thrilling Golf Draws Across Kenya

As the first weekend of the new year dawns, golf enthusiasts across Kenya are gearing up for an action-packed golfing events on the greens.

The draws for various premier golf clubs promise a spectacular display of skill and competition that will set the tone for an exciting year ahead.

Sigona Golf Club, Machakos Country Club, Vetlab Sports Club, Ruiru Sports Club, Royal Nairobi Golf Club, and Nyali Golf and Country Club will be hosting riveting tournaments.

SIGONA GOLF CLUB

The par 72 Sigona Golf Course will this weekend bring together golf aficionados from far and wide for the five-day third round of the 2023/24 Safari Tour Series.

Mumias professional Dismas Indiza, Greg Snow from Muthaiga Golf Club, Jastas Madoya (Great Rift Valley), David Wakhu (Golf Park), as well as regional players including Liberty Gumisa from Zimbabwe, will be among the top pros expected to play in the tourney.

The 72-hole four-round stroke play in the third leg of the series will be curtain-raised by the Pro-Am tournament on Saturday.

The main draw is set for Sunday through Wednesday.

MACHAKOS COUNTRY CLUB

The Machakos County Club is set to host the inaugural leg of the 2024 ICEA Lion King of the Course Golf Series which has attracted a formidable field of over 140 players hailing from both Machakos and the broader Nairobi metropolitan area.

Machakos Golf Club Captain Stephen Musyoka confirmed the course is in excellent shape for the upcoming competition because of the recent improvements.

ICEA Lion Chief Executive Officer Philip Lopokoiyit said they are thrilled to kick off the 8th edition of the 2024 golf series at Machakos Golf Club.

“This series is not just about golf; it’s a celebration of excellence and a platform for meaningful engagement with our clients and stakeholders across Kenya,” said Lopokoiyit.

RUIRU SPORTS CLUB

Ruiru Sports Club will host the “January 2024 Monthly Mug,” on Saturday with an impressive lineup scheduled throughout the day.

At least 242 golfers will participate in the tournament.

VETLAB SPORTS CLUB

The Vetlab Sports Club in Nairobi will host the “Sungura Qualifying Round,” which is sponsored by Professor OLe Mbatia.

The tourney promises a showcase of skill and precision.

ROYAL NAIROBI GOLF CLUB

The oldest golf club in Kenya, Royal Nairobi Golf Club (1906) will kick off the New Year with the RNGC New Year Classic Opener this Saturday.

NYALI GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB

Finally, at Nyali Golf and Country Club, the golfing weekend will unfurl with dual excitement featuring the November Mug and Ladies Medal tournament.
