Elvis Muigua successfully defended the NCBA Winston Churchill Cup at Thika Sports Club, overcoming a competitive field that featured some of Kenya’s top-ranked amateur golfers.

Representing Ndumberi Golf Club, Muigua was in sublime form over the three-day tournament, carding impressive rounds of 69, 75, and 68 for a total score of 212, finishing four-under-par.

His composed and consistent play kept him firmly atop the leaderboard, ultimately earning him the winner’s prize of KSh115,600.

“My game is very nice right now. I’m hoping to improve more and more as we keep practicing for the upcoming tournaments,” Muigua told Golf Score Kenya after his victory.

This was Muigua’s first victory in the 2025 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship Series after participating in five events.

Finishing second was his clubmate and 2024 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship Series winner, Michael Karanga, who posted rounds of 71, 76, and 70 for a total of 217 (+1).

Despite entering the tournament as a favourite, Karanga couldn’t close the gap on the in-form Muigua.

Limuru Country Club’s Dennis Maara, the immediate former Team Kenya captain, settled for third place with a total of 221 (+5), after returning rounds of 72, 73, and 76.

Maara had a strong start but struggled to maintain momentum in the final round.

Ndumberi’s Steve Kiaro followed closely in fourth at +7, while Naomi Wafula made a statement with a top-five finish.

The Vipingo Ridge Golf Club player, and the only lady in the field, impressed with rounds of 76, 73, and 76 for a total of 225 (+9).

Muigua’s victory at Thika adds another title to his growing list of accolades and further cements his reputation as one of Kenya’s most promising golf prospects.

The championship, played at the par-72 Thika Sports Club course, attracted 78 elite amateur talent and served as a key event on the local golf calendar.

The total prize purse was KES 500,000.

Following his victory at Thika Sports Club, Muigua has climbed to second place in the 2025 KAGC player rankings with 200 points.

He now trails Royal Nairobi Golf Club’s John Lejirma, who leads with 204 points.

Karanga sits in third with 170 points.
