A total of 28 professional golfers are competing in a one-round competition at the Kenya Railway Golf Club leg of the PGK Classic tournament.

The event, organized by the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK), teed off on Tuesday morning at 7:30 am at the nine-hole Railways Golf Club.

Among the participants are top golfers, including Njoroge Kibugu, Greg Snow, Dismas Indiza, C.J. Wangai, Nelson Mundayi, David Wakhu, Erick Ooko, Samuel Njoroge, Jastas Madoya, and Mutahi Kibugu.

The Railways leg of the PGK Classic marks the first local professional tournament since the 2025 Magical Kenya Open, where Riz Charania was the top Kenyan finisher, tying for 93rd place.

IMG Kenya Limited, a leading sports agency, has provided PGK with a KES 200,000 cash sponsorship to support the tournament’s organization.

This sponsorship aligns with IMG Kenya’s ongoing efforts to develop professional golf in Kenya, following a similar contribution to PGK in January ahead of the 2025 Magical Kenya Open.

The Railways leg of the PGK Classic has a total prize purse of KES 400,000, with the winner taking home KES 72,000—18 percent of the total prize fund.

Commenting on the sponsorship, IMG Kenya Limited CEO Peter Gacheru emphasized their commitment to growing professional golf in the country.

“We are on a journey with PGK to elevate the profile of professional golf in Kenya by ensuring our pro golfers participate in competitive tournaments that enhance their skills and raise the overall quality of the game,” said Gacheru.

He added that this sponsorship is part of IMG Kenya’s long-term strategy to support the growth of professional golf in Kenya.

“We are committed to helping our pros in their quest to become regional and global golf stars and look forward to more collaborative efforts as they work toward this goal,” he said.

PGK Chairman John Wangai expressed gratitude to IMG for its support and encouraged other organizations to come on board.

“The PGK organizes these events to keep our professionals competitive and help them prepare for regional and international tournaments,” Wangai said.

Kenyan pro golfers have reiterated the need for more tournaments to sharpen their skills.
