Regina Gachora Retires as Muthaiga Golf Club Lady Captain

Outgoing Muthaiga Golf Club Lady Captain Regina Gachora.

Regina Gachora’s term as the Lady Captain of Muthaiga Golf Club concluded over the weekend, marking the end of her one-year tenure.

Regina, who also serves as the Junior Golf President, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead.

“I am so privileged and grateful to every one of the Muthaiga Golf Club members for entrusting me with this role over the past year. It has been an honour to serve as Lady Captain, and I look forward to seeing the incoming Lady Captain, Daphne Maina, take the reins,” said Regina.

Daphne Maina officially takes over as the new Lady Captain.

Regina was elected as Lady Captain of the Golf Club in 2024.

She previously served the Club as the Lady Vice-Captain in 2023 and has also served the Club’s Golf and Course Committee.

Although stepping down from her role at Muthaiga, Regina emphasized that she remains committed to contributing to the growth of golf in Kenya and will continue to serve in the Golf Kenya Federation.

Golf Kenya President Philip Ochola said Regina will serve in the development committee of Golf Kenya.

Ochola said Golf in Kenya will soon be under one umbrella body.

He said Kenya Golf Union (KGU), Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU), Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK), Junior Golf Foundation (JGF), and Kenya Open Golf Limited will now be under Golf Kenya, that was established under the Sports Act of 2013.

“We all know that we’ve been going through a transition period. We’ve been working on the new constitution that will put all of us together as one body, that is Golf Kenya under the 2013 Sports Act,” he said.

He said they are done with the constitution of the Golf Kenya.

“We’ve now called for the Special General Meeting (SGM) to adopt the unit, so KGU, KLGU, PGK, JGF, Kenya Open Golf Limited will go forward and be one body,” he said.

He said the transition committee is working to ensure that everybody is included in the new governing body.

“There’ll be a broader prospect for all of us to be leaders and to manage golf going forward. What it has been is nine people running golf in Kenya. Golf has grown over the last four years, so we cannot go on with the same leadership that we had in the past,” he said.

“I look forward to serving with all of you in the next couple of years as we grow and build golf.”
