Atsango Lwande Takes Over as Karen Country Club Lady Captain

Atsango Lwande was named the new Lady Captain of Karen Country Club during Saturday’s annual Lady Captain’s Prize Tournament.

Previously serving as the club’s Vice Lady Captain, Atsango took over the mantle from Betty Gacheru, who had held the position for the past year.

It was a double triumph for Atsango, who also emerged as the overall winner of the Karen Country Club annual Lady Captain’s Prize Tournament, scoring an impressive 45 points.

She finished three points ahead of Njeri Gitau, who placed second with 42 points, and Muthoni Muturi, who came in third with 41 points.

Speaking at the event, the outgoing Lady Captain Gacheru expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve the club.

“Being Lady Captain has been a humbling and deeply rewarding experience. I have learned to be more patient and engaging. I am proud of what we’ve accomplished together over the past year, and I look forward to seeing our club reach new heights,” she said.

As she concluded her tenure, Gacheru thanked the members for their support.

“It has been an incredible journey to witness the growth, resilience, and achievements of our members,” she added.

In the men’s category, Ndirangu Kariuki emerged victorious, beating Kibe Mwangi on countback after both scored 44 points.

The countback also decided third place, with William Mayiani edging out Alastair Campbell after both returned 41 points.

The day celebrated standout performances, including Kate Ngotho, who won the prestigious Golfer of the Year (GOTY) Trophy with a total of 30.50 points.

Pettie Ndolo took the eclectic gross category with 69 points, finishing ahead of Louisa Gitau and Kate Ngotho, who scored 70 and 72 gross, respectively.

In the net category, Lucy Gakinya defeated Ngotho on countback after both scored 51 points, while Ndolo secured third place with a net score of 52.

In the junior category, Muthoni Kioi led with 39 points, followed by Mugambi Mbugua and Tyler Belyon, both with 35 points, as Mbugua claimed second place on countback.

Additional awards included the longest drive for juniors, claimed by Hazel Kuria and Emmanuel Agengo, while Dorcas Mbalanya and Arimi Kimathi won nearest-to-the-pin honours.
