Mary Kandu delivered a stellar performance to defend her Ladies Division One title during the Nyali Golf and Country Club leg of the 2024 NCBA Golf Series.
The penultimate qualifying round, held on the par-71 Nyali Golf Club course, saw six golfers earn their spots for the series finale, which is set for November 29 at Muthaiga Golf Club.
The event drew over 230 golfers, all vying for the coveted tickets to the grand finale.
Kandu, playing off handicap 11, claimed victory in the Ladies Division One category with 36 points, securing a comfortable win.
This marks her second consecutive triumph in the same division.
“The course was in great condition despite some rain. I’m thrilled to have qualified for the grand finale and look forward to competing at Muthaiga against the country’s top golfers. I hope to win,” Kandu said.
In the men’s division, it was a tough battle as Emmanuel Lumatete (handicap 8) edged out Aydan Jama (handicap 12) on countback, with both returning 39 points.
“Golf tests your mental strength, and I believe I played solidly from the first to the 18th hole. Now, my focus is on the finale in Nairobi, where I aim to prove myself as one of the best,” Lumatete said.
In Division Two, Elijah Ibua (handicap 24) emerged victorious in the men’s category, while Faith Muteti (handicap 18) secured the top spot with an impressive 45 points.
Jack Mureithi, playing off handicap 36, posted 45 points to win Division Three, and David Kaguru took home the junior category title with 43 points off handicap 35.
Agnes Nyambura and Wangoru Kihara triumphed in the staff and guest categories, with scores of 33 and 38 points, respectively.
To date, over 100 golfers have qualified for the finale, including six from Uganda and three from Rwanda.
Dennis Njau, NCBA Director of Network Business and Distribution, congratulated the day’s winners.
“Their hard work has earned them a spot at the 2024 NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale at Muthaiga Golf Club. We wish them the best and hope they represent this great club well,” he said.
This year’s NCBA Series has expanded to cover Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda.
The next stop of the series will be on October 26 at the Great Rift Valley Lodge for the final local qualifying leg.
