Golf Park’s Margaret Njoki emerged victorious on Saturday, beating a field of 109 golfers to win the 2024 Nakuru Ladies Open held at the par-73 Nakuru Golf Club.
Njoki claimed the top spot with a solid performance, carding a round of 78 (+5).
She started strongly, recording a steady 38 on the front nine, and maintained her composure through the back nine, finishing with a 40.
Her consistent play throughout the day saw her end five strokes over par.
“The tournament was good, and the course was in great shape. I didn’t expect to win, but I’m really glad to be named the overall champion,” Njoki told Golf Score Kenya.
Currently ranked second in the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Order of Merit, Njoki now sets her sights on the Kenya Ladies Strokeplay Championship, which will take place at Vetlab Sports Club in Nairobi from Friday, October 4 to Sunday, October 6.
“We are heading to Vetlab this Friday, and I’m hoping to also win the Kenya Ladies Strokeplay Championship,” said Njoki.
In Nakuru, Gloria Mbaguta finished close behind Njoki, carding an 80 (+7) to secure second place.
Mercy Nyanchama, the reigning 2024 Tanzania Ladies Open champion, followed in third with an 82 (+9).
Nyanchama displayed her usual aggressive play early on, but a series of bogeys on the front nine hampered her performance.
The fourth position was shared by Mary Muthoni and Judith Komugisha, both of whom finished with a score of 83 (+10).
