George Makori and Ashely Awuor emerged victorious in the latest leg of the NCBA Golf Series, held at the historic Royal Nairobi Golf Club on Saturday.
The 118-year-old course hosted over 250 golfers, all vying for a chance to qualify for the NCBA Series Grand Finale on November 29.
In the Men’s Division One, Makori, playing off a 10 handicap, delivered an impressive 39 points to edge out Sunil Parmar on countback.
Meanwhile, Awuor, playing off a handicap 5, triumphed in the Ladies’ Category with an excellent score of 38, finishing ahead of Diana Mbuba (handicap 7), who carded 36 points.
In Division Two, Nicholas Malaki (handicap 18) and Christine Mathenge (handicap 24) claimed top honours with 42 and 44 points, respectively.
Tesha Magira, playing off a 30 handicap, was crowned the overall winner in Division Three with an outstanding 44 points.
In the Junior Category, Shawn Malesi (handicap 12) took home the prize after posting 35 points, while Don Tororei and Rahab Thuo triumphed in the Guest and Staff Categories.
One of the highlights of the day came from Constantine Barasa, who stole the spotlight by sinking a spectacular hole-in-one on the 167-yard par-3 17th hole.
With their victories, Makori, Awuor, Malaki, Mathenge, Magira, and Malesi join over 100 other golfers, who have already secured their spots for the Grand Finale at Muthaiga Golf Club.
Speaking at the event, NCBA Group Acting Corporate Banking Director, Charles Omondi, expressed pride in the growth and reach of the series.
“Since launching this year’s edition at this very course, we’ve expanded our golf support not only across Kenya but into Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda. We’re immensely proud to unite the region under the golf umbrella,” he said.
In line with NCBA’s sustainability agenda, the bank also took part in planting over 100 indigenous trees at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club, supporting environmental conservation and enhancing the club’s green spaces.
Next weekend, the series heads to Entebbe Club in Uganda for the final qualifying round before the grand finale.
