Kenya’s top four amateur golfers—John Lejirma, Michael Karanga, Elvis Muigua, and Adel Balala—will represent the country at the Region IV Championship in Rwanda.
The event is scheduled to take place from October 4th to 6th, 2024, at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas.
The team will compete against counterparts from Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan, Seychelles, Reunion, and host nation Rwanda.
On Friday, the Kenya Golf Union officially named the four-member squad, tasked with defending the prestigious Region IV trophy, formerly known as the East Africa Challenge.
Kenya Golf Union Tournament Director, Chris Kinuthia, confirmed that the team has undergone rigorous training over the past month, under the guidance of National Team Coach John Van Liefland.
Team Captain John Lejirma expressed confidence in their preparation and readiness for the regional showdown.
“I’m confident that the team is in great shape, and we will bring the trophy back home,” said Lejirma.
All four players are currently leading the 2024 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series.
Karanga, from Kiambu Golf Club, tops the leaderboard with 693 points, followed by Lejirma of Kenya Railway Golf Club with 622 points.
Muigua, also from Kiambu Golf Club, is in third with 415.5 points, while Balala, from Nyali Golf and Country Club, holds fourth place with 272 points.
The team is set to depart for Rwanda on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
