Justin Ngeera showcased his skill with a remarkable one-over-par 73, clinching victory in the Boys 13-14 category at the NCBA US Kids tournament held at Vetlab Sports Club.
Ngeera’s round featured a solid 39 on the front nine, followed by an outstanding 34 on the back nine, highlighted by five birdies.
His impressive performance secured him the top spot.
Peter Gathogo took second place with a score of 76, while Yuvraj Rajput rounded out the top three with a score of 78.
In the Girls 13-14 category, Yolanda Yu dominated the field, winning by a wide margin with a score of 78.
She outpaced her closest competitor, Sophia Nesbitt, by 11 strokes, with Nesbitt finishing at 87.
Lael Mwangale completed the podium with a score of 91.
The Boys 12 category saw an intense battle as Palash Tank and Jeff Kivi both posted scores of 80, leading to the tournament’s only playoff.
Palash emerged victorious in the playoff, securing first place and earning the coveted 30 winners’ points.
Muriithi Gatu finished third with a score of 83, just three strokes behind the leaders.
Reflecting on his performance, Palash noted, “The front nine was challenging, but I improved on the back nine, shooting two over. The greens were quicker due to the changing weather, which added to the difficulty.”
In the Boys 11 category, Adam Nesbitt delivered a standout performance, winning with a score of 79 in a field of nine players.
“The course was tough in the morning, but it improved as the weather cleared. The greens were particularly tricky, and I struggled the most with them,” said Nesbitt.
He also mentioned how the chilly morning conditions affected his play, noting, “It was cold, and I wasn’t fully prepared. My hands were stiff, which made it hard to control my shots.”
Xichao Huang secured second place with an 83, while Alexander Mbugua claimed third with a score of 87.
Vetlab was the second of eight legs in the NCBA US Kids Spring Local Tour.
The series kicked off at Limuru Country Club on August 11, 2024.
The next two legs will take place in September at Thika and the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.
