Naomi Wafula of Vipingo Ridge Golf Club claimed victory in the 2024 Kenya Ladies Open Amateur Matchplay Championship on Sunday, held at Thika Greens Golf Resort.
The prestigious three-day event, which began on Friday, culminated in an electrifying final.
Wafula faced off against Ashley Awuor of Royal Nairobi Golf Club in a thrilling showdown.
Both golfers exhibited exceptional skill and determination, but it was Wafula who triumphed, securing a 2&1 victory on the 17th hole.
“I’m grateful for the win. I thank God so much for the strength through all the rounds. I’m also thankful to my sponsors, the Kenya Ladies Golf Union, and Vipingo Ridge for their support. I’m looking forward to my next tournament in Nyeri next week,” Wafula told Golf Score Kenya.
Defending champion Diana Mbuba from Royal Nairobi Golf Club was unable to retain her title, as her campaign was cut short by her clubmate Awuor, who edged her out in a dramatic 21st-hole sudden-death playoff.
In Division A, Benta Khanili emerged victorious with a 2&1 win over Brianna Ngechu, while Susan Ngure claimed the Division B title with a 1-up victory against Beatrice Odhiambo.
The event, organized by the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU), attracted top Lady Amateur golfers from across the country.
