NCBA Golf Series: Mwangi and Karano Triumph at VetLab Sports Club

Edward Mwangi and Mary Karano emerged victorious in the fiercely contested Division One category of the NCBA Golf Series, held on Saturday at VetLab Sports Club.

The tournament drew a strong field of 224 golfers, each vying not only for top honours but also for a coveted spot in the NCBA Series Grand Finale set for November.

Playing off a handicap of 12, Mwangi claimed the top spot with an impressive 46 points, outpacing his handicap-mate, Sunir Parmar, who finished with 38 points.

In the ladies’ Division One category, Karano, also playing off a handicap of 12, secured the win with 36 points.

In Division Two, Kennedy Mariga took top honours in the men’s category with 41 points, playing off a handicap of 18.

Rachel Ndei, playing off handicap 15, triumphed in the ladies’ category.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Chemweno was the overall winner in Division Three, scoring 41 points off a handicap of 31.

The junior category saw Parv Kavia, playing off a handicap of 9, securing a spot in the grand finale with 30 points.

James Mbui, with a handicap of 10, topped the guest category with 39 points, while Eric Nabutola, playing off a handicap of 32, was crowned the staff winner with an outstanding 41 points.

Speaking at the event, NCBA Group Acting Corporate Banking Director Charles Omondi emphasized the significance of the NCBA Golf Series in fostering sportsmanship and camaraderie among golfers nationwide.

“As we approach the final stages of the 2024 series, performances like these are truly inspiring and promise an exciting showdown in November,” Omondi said.

He also praised the VetLab Sports Club for providing an excellent venue and commended the golfers for their exceptional talent.

Omondi highlighted NCBA’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote both sportsmanship and community engagement.

“Events like these are vital in developing and promoting golf in Kenya. We look forward to the continued success of the series and the opportunity to inspire more golfers to participate,” he added.

In line with its sustainability agenda, NCBA planted over 100 indigenous trees at VetLab Sports Club, furthering its commitment to environmental conservation and enhancing the club’s green spaces.

The NCBA Golf Series continues to gain momentum, attracting a growing number of participants with each leg.

The next leg of the series is scheduled for Saturday, 31st August, in Nanyuki, where a large turnout and intense competition are anticipated.
