Top Golfers to Compete in NCBA Kabete Open 2024

Some 133 golfers from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and the United Kingdom will compete in the NCBA Kabete Open 2024.

The event takes place at the 18-hole Vet Lab Sports Club from Friday, July 19, to Sunday, July 21.

Top contenders include Ugandan Michael Alunga, the recent winner of the 102nd NCBA Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championship at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club last Sunday.

Also competing this weekend are the tournament’s defending champion Michael Karanga and Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) 2024 series leader Lejirma from Railway Golf Club.

Other notable players are Adel Balala of Nyali Golf and Country Club, Elvis Muigua of Kiambu Golf Club, and Ugandan Joseph Cwinyaai, who finished second in the recent Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championship at Windsor.

The Kabete Open 2024 will also feature nine lady golfers: Naomi Wafula (Vipingo Ridge), Kellie Gachaga (Karen), Frankie Gichuru (Vet Lab), Hellen Manyara (Vet Lab), Diana Mbuba (Royal Nairobi), Kanana Muthomi (Windsor), Mercy Nyanchama (Njoro), and Belinda Wanjiru (Vet Lab).

Only the top 33 golfers after the first two rounds will advance to the final round on Sunday, ensuring a fierce competition.

Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Tournament Director Chris Kinuthia expressed excitement for the event.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to NCBA for sponsoring the NCBA Kabete Open and to Vet Lab Sports Club for providing an exceptional course for the next three days,” he said.

NCBA Managing Director John Gachora shared his enthusiasm for the tournament.

“This event brings together talented golfers from across the region. We believe in supporting sporting events that promote excellence. We wish all golfers the best of luck and look forward to an exciting competition,” said Gachora.

The NCBA Kabete Open is a qualifying tournament for the World Amateur Golf Championship and the local KAGC ranking, adding to its prestige.
