John Lejirma of Kenya Railway Golf Club emerged victorious in the NCBA Ruiru Open on Sunday, securing his third title in this year’s Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series.
His previous wins were at the Trans Nzoia Open on April 24 and the Ronald Marshal and Toby Gibson Cup on May 18 in Njoro Golf Club, Nakuru.
The weekend event at Ruiru Sports Club saw intense competition, with Ugandan golfer Andrew Ssekibejja and Ruiru’s Raphael Leming’ani rounding out the top three positions.
Lejirma’s performance was spectacular, finishing with a score of 206, 13 under par.
His rounds of 69, 69, and 68 demonstrated consistent excellence and allowed him to maintain a strong lead throughout the event.
In the first round on Friday, Lejirma started strong with birdies on the 3rd, 7th, 9th, and 16th holes, finishing with 69, four under par.
On Saturday, he maintained his form with another 69.
In the final round, Lejirma sealed his victory with an impressive 68, featuring early birdies on the 1st and 3rd holes and additional birdies on the 14th, 15th, and 16th.
“I will not be working on my game. There will be a game in Mauritius. I think that’s my promise right now. Hopefully, we go there and show our talents,” said Lejirma.
Uganda’s Andrew Ssekibejja from Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort finished second with a total score of 219, at par.
His rounds of 73, 72, and 74 showed consistent play, but he couldn’t match Lejirma’s birdie count.
Ssekibejja’s highlight came in the second round, with strategic birdies on the 6th, 11th, and 14th holes.
Ruiru Sports Club’s Raphael Leming’ani secured third place with a score of 223, four over par.
Despite a challenging start with a 76 in the first round, Leming’ani improved with scores of 75 and 72.
His final round was particularly impressive, with birdies on the 3rd and 7th holes and a strong finish on the 16th and 18th.
